John Modlish
Mechanical Engineer

BIO

Hi, my name is John Modlish and I am a Mechanical engineer. I graduated from Northeastern University in 2016, and began working at the medical device company Abiomed soon after. I spent 3 years working for Abiomed at different levels of development engineering. As a part of the access and closure team, our goal was to come up with novel accessories to aide in the minimally invasive implantation of the Impella ventricular assist device. Some of the specifics are listed in the accompanying pages, but much of my activity was hands-on. This includes, product & fixture design, product & fixture manufacturing, test development, product testing, and test data analysis/presentation.

As of November 2019, I have taken on a bit of a lifestyle change and am living in Teton Valley Idaho. This move has reinvigorated my love for the mountains and the outdoors in general. While I spent a winter working part time, with a primary focus on navigating and skiing the beautiful Teton range, once the snow melted I began working full-time as a craftsman for the local timber framing company Ridgeline Log and Timber. At RLT we specialize in reclaimed beam assemblies, recycled barn wood structures and repurpose whole log buildings. I spent about a year and a half building large roof systems, post and beam entryways, log benches, etc. and have begun to take on a larger role of designing and drafting these as well as building and installing.

I have also completed some independent projects outside of work. Take a look at RLT, Abiomed, Co-op, and Independent projects below this bio, or by clicking the Engineering Experience tab. This page is a constant work in progress, so bear with me!
Outside of engineering, I like to stay active. Backcountry and resort skiing in the Winter. Climbing, biking, surfing in the Summer. Growing up playing team sports on the north shore of Massachusetts, I also have to admit to being a big-time Boston sports fan. I won’t miss a game of my beloved Celtics. Although I couldn’t make the C’s roster, I do enjoy playing pick-up basketball whenever possible.
